Harvest Baptist Academy

Our Christian Academy offers education for students from kindergarten to grade 12. We offer core courses (Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Math), an afterschool elementary Art program, along with a solid Bible and elementary music program. We integrate Christian resources and curriculum into our courses as much as possible.
Our accredited program follows the standards of Alberta Education, and we offer an Alberta certificate and High School credits. We offer

Overview

Harvest Baptist Academy supports and encourages the use of technology to enhance and facilitate learning. The Internet gives teachers and students access to important educational resources such as online museums, encyclopedias, government libraries and databases etc. . Along with this availability comes the risk of access to material that may not be considered to be of educational value. While student use of the Internet will be supervised, Harvest Baptist Academy does not have full control of the content that may be accessible. Students are expected to exercise responsible Christian behaviour when using the internet. Access to the school computers and the Internet is given as a privilege to students, not a right. We require that students and parents/guardians read, understand and agree to the following rules for acceptable computer use and on-line behaviour.

Student Responsibilities include:

● Using the Internet in a way that is consistent with the mission and policies of Harvest Baptist Academy.

● Using the internet ONLY for school related or staff approved educational work. The following are not permitted:

Sending or receiving personal email.
Sending, receiving or displaying offensive messages or pictures.
Playing online games (not approved by HBA), participating in chat rooms, reading or posting weblogs unless specifically related to coursework.
Using another student’s password or giving another student his/her password.
Damaging or altering computer or network equipment or software.
Revealing personal information about myself or other individuals.

● Learning and using citations correctly.

I understand that online content may be objectionable and will not hold Harvest Baptist Academy accountable should my student access that unacceptable content. I agree to report any unacceptable online behaviour to the school principal or designate. I understand that Harvest Baptist Academy will not assume legal liability for inappropriate use, and that I will hold some responsibility for violations of this agreement by my student. I understand that I will be notified concerning any serious breach of this agreement by my student, especially where their account privileges are suspended or cancelled.

PERSONAL INFORMATION PROTECTION OF PRIVACY ACT

On April 1, 2023 the Personal Information Protection Act [PIPA] came into effect for all Alberta Schools. Under this legislation, schoolswill continue to gather student information [allowed under the Education Act] and must indicate to parents how the information willbe used. The purpose of this notice is to inform you of the uses of student information collected by Harvest Baptist Academy andHarvest Christian Home School.

The following items describe activities where student information may be used and such uses [as legislated by the PIPA Act].

NOTICE OF ACTIVITIES

● students’ names, photos and comments may be included in the school calendar, yearbook, or newsletter..

● individual, class or team photos may be taken and used within the school for identification.

● students’ names may be included on artwork or other materials displayed at school.

● students’ names and parents’/guardians’ telephone numbers may be used to take attendance at school, field trips,

transportation services, emergencies, planning and other school-sponsored activities.

● students’ names, telephone numbers and addresses may be included in school directories.

● students’ names may be included in listings of honour rolls, bus lists, graduations, scholarships, awards or for special

recognition (e.g. birthday) purposes.

● students’ names may be included on class lists posted for class placement.

● students' names and telephone numbers may be provided to classroom parent representatives [e.g. absenteeism

verification, school activities] or for fan-out purposes [e.g. notification of emergency school closures]

● the taking of photos/videos of classroom activities, and their use by the media or other organizations where students are

not interviewed or identified by name or face.

● the use of a student’s name for individual class, club, team and/or group photos/videos/images taken at school-sponsored

activities for display at the school.

● the use of students’ names and academic information necessary for determining eligibility or suitability for provincial,

federal or other types of awards or scholarships in the event the board applies on a student’s behalf.

MEDIA/OUTSIDE ORGANIZATIONS

Where individual students are identified or interviewed by media or outside organizations and the material will be used outside the school, separate and specific consent will be requested of parents. Parents will be contacted before such events taking place.

PUBLIC EVENTS:

Photos and videos of school activities that are open to the general public, may be taken and used for purposes within and outside the school, and are beyond the school board’s mandate.
